Please help our receptionists help you

A reminder about our appointments:
At our GP surgery, we’re here to support you with your health. We know that lots of people make appointments to see a doctor, but we also have other people who can help.
The whole team works together with our doctors to find the best way to help you. These helpers include people like clinical advanced practitioners, advanced nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacists, social prescribers, care coordinators, nurses, physio’s and counsellors.
Our receptionists will ask you for a brief reason for your appointment and may offer to make an appointment for you with one of these clinicians rather than a Doctor.
If we think that somewhere else can help you, we’ll try to find the right place for you.
This could mean that you might see someone in a different place, like an urgent care centre, a specially trained NHS optician or a community nurse.
So, when you contact us – whether it’s online, in person, or on the phone – our team will find the most appropriate service or health professional to help you with your health concerns.
We kindly request our patients to please be patient when calling for an appointment.
If the problem is not urgent please avoid calling us, email us instead with your query to portcullis.surgery@nhs.net and we will answer your query as soon as possible.
If the problem is urgent but not life-threatening please call us as usual on 01584 872939.
If our book on the day appointments have been fully booked and your problem is urgent but not life-threatening, you can ask to be added to the emergency list for a callback from the Duty Dr.
We will be triaging all urgent calls as usual so please give as much information as possible to the receptionist about your urgent problem so we can assess your level of need. You may be given a call back in the afternoon if we are extremely busy.
If your problem is life-threatening (e.g. severe problem with breathing, collapse, possible heart attack, stroke etc) you may be asked by the receptionist to call 999 as usual.
