Young Shropshire in Work (YSiW)

  • YSiW is a Ludlow based charity which supports young people who are 16 – 25 through a confidential 1:1 mentoring service. Our volunteer mentors are trained (including Safeguarding Training) they are DBS checked, have wide life experiences, knowledgeable about the local area and have an empathy for young people .
  • Mentors will support a person between leaving school and finding a job or training, or are slightly older and unemployed. Some young people find it difficult to make the transition from education into a job or training. We receive self referrals as well as from agencies such as the Jobcentre, County Training , Ludlow College or the Foyer.
  • Many of the young people we support do not possess the employability skills that an employer is looking for. They are lacking soft skills and may have other barriers to be overcome before they can move towards the practical aspects of finding work or training. During the 1:1 mentoring sessions we will be working with the individual to address the following areas:
  • Soft Skills
  • Addressing low self- esteem
  • Identifying barriers to work or training
  • Transport issues
  • Motivation
  • Employability Skills
  • CV writing
  • Interview Techniques
  • Mock interviews
  • Filling in an application form
  • Finding work experience
  • These are just a few ways our mentors offer support to a mentee, in most cases the young person and mentor will identify and set goals and actions together, and meet on a regular basis to identify progress and next steps.
  • For further information please visit the YSiW website www.youngshropshireinwork.co.uk or contact Erica Garner (Chair of Young Shropshire in Work) on 01584 875027 or 07974001310
