Portcullis Surgery would like to offer their most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Mrs Gloria Corfield (26.10.1940 – 5.11.2024) wife of the late Peter Corfield MBE who died in 2022.
Gloria was born in Exeter and joined the RAF as a nurse at the age of 18. She married and had three children and worked in Oxford as a County Clerk. She then moved to London to work in the Royal Courts of Justice in the Lord Chancellor’s Dept for the Court of Protection. Whilst travelling to work in London, she met the late Peter Corfield MBE. They married in 1990 and moved to Ludlow in 1997.
Both Gloria and Peter were heavily involved in local charities and committees. She joined Richards Castle WI and became President for 9 years. She was a Volunteer Coordinator for the Royal Chemotherapy Day Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and a Committee member of the League of Friends of Ludlow Hospital, organising and supporting numerous fund-raising events.
She was passionate to continue her late husband Peter’s legacy of championing Ludlow Hospital and ensuring it remains a vital part of our community healthcare landscape.
Gloria died unexpectedly and suddenly at home on the evening of Tuesday 5th November. She had been fully active socially during the previous weeks, including attending her local church each Sunday and a League of Friends Committee meeting on the Monday afternoon, with her usual vivacity, enthusiasm and warmth.
She will be cremated on Thursday 28th November in Hereford. There will be a Church Service and celebration of her life at St Lawrence’s Parish Church at 14.00, followed by a wake at the Brewery at 15.00hrs. All are welcome to attend.
On behalf of Portcullis Practice thankyou Gloria, to you and to your husband Peter for your unwavering help and support over the years. RIP we will miss you both.
