Cryotherapy for skin lesions

Cryotherapy

The cryotherapy device destroys the tissue by freezing the fluid inbetween the cells, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell. That means there will be no collateral damage to healthy tissue. It’s so incredibly accurate and practical.

Please note: Cryotherapy is a cosmetic procedure which is no longer funded by the NHS. Our partners have decided to continue offering cryotherapy as a free service in the practice however, we are asking all patients who have this procedure done in the practice to make a donation towards the patient donation fund on a voluntary basis in order to fund the costs of the nitric acid canisters.

Cryotherapy is a relatively low-risk procedure. It delivers a freeze directly to the area, and not the healthy surrounding tissue. The treated area may go darker over a few weeks, but will return to normal pigmented skin in about 6 weeks. There will be a pain sensation similar to a stinging nettle on the skin when the Nitrous Oxide reaches the bottom of the area. There might be a little residual stinging for a few minutes after treatment, this is normal. On rare occasions the area may become infected and may need treatment. There may be a residual scar left behind.
This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
