THE NHS APP AND ACCESS TO YOUR ONLINE RECORDS

There are a number of apps including the NHS APP that provide access to your medical records, details of medication, allergies and other useful information. You can book appointments online and order repeat precriptions.

From 4th October 2023, most of our patients in Portcullis Surgery over the age of 16 have been able to see any new information added to their health record. This means that you will be able to see any notes from your appointments with your GP, as well as test results and any letters that are saved on your records.

This only applies to records from your doctor (GP), not from hospitals or other specialists however you will be able to read most hospital letters. For most people, access will be automatic, and you won’t need to do anything.

While enabling patients to view their medical records through the NHS App will be beneficial to the majority of patients, there may be challenges for a minority. This is especially true in relation to safeguarding vulnerable adults, as the record may contain information that is confidential and sensitive, which the patient must not see, or could be harmful if the patient is unable to keep their record secure, such as in cases of coercion. Our practice staff will be able to customise or remove access for individuals if this is deemed inappropriate.

If you don’t want to see your record, send us a message to let us know that you do not wish to be able to see your records.
